El Valle de Anton is in the province of Cocle, less then 2 hours from Panama City and only 30 minutes from the hotels along Playa Blanca. El Valle is the crater of a long dormant volcano, the largest in all of Central America. With a cooler climate, it is set at 600 metres above sea level. The small town is famous for its market, where national, and natural handicrafts are sold, as well as a large fruit market. This small town also has a large variety of attractions, such as hot springs, zipline canopy adventure, waterfalls, hiking, rock climbing, Caves with Indian petroglyphs, a zoo, a serpentarium, and much more. From your hotel, we travel to the old section of town, the historical and beautiful Casco Viejo. Here you will see the city much as it looked when built in 1673 after Henry Morgan had sacked Panama City in 1671. There is a great work underway now to restore this area to its former glory. You will see distinct French, Italian, and Spanish architecture. We will walk around the French Plaza and view the many monuments to the French pioneers who began the building of the Panama Canal. After this we will head to the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center, where you will be able to learn all about the canal's history, present, and future, as well as watch the ships transitting the locks.
